Impakt Event: Manon BovenkerkIn the winter of 2007, Dutch artist Manon Bovenkerk worked on her latest production Julia/Guiliana as Impakt Resident Artist. This Impakt Event will premiere this latest work. In Julia/Guiliana, a story is told by means of film stills, consisting of subtle charcoal drawings and photos of untouchable modernist architecture. Unable to make real contact with her environment, Julia increasingly loses herself in loneliness and doubt. Is the woman she thinks she sees really her double, or just a hallucination? Next to being an exploration of the combination of stills and the passing of time, this film also is a personal declaration of love to a famous actress from the 1960s cinema. In addition to Julia/Guiliana, Manon Bovenkerk will also present older work. Furthermore, she will tell us about her sources of inspiration by showing works of Dan Geesin, Chris Marker, William Kentridge, David Shrigley and Michelangelo Antonioni. The Event will touch on various themes such as the gray area between animation, cinema and visual arts, and the use of architecture in Bovenkerk’s work. Manon Bovenkerk will be interviewed by Bart Rutten (Stedelijk Museum Den Bosch). Upon the invitation of Manon Bovenkerk, Albert Wulffers will pay tribute to his favourite actress in a performance.
