Impakt Tip: New Content on the Impakt Channel
The Impakt Channel is getting an important update: content with context.
Previously used solely as a platform for screening Impakt Festival programming outside the physical confines of the festival, the channel is now expanding to include thematic sections. The first of new categories, “Hacking the Engine” and “Mind Your Language”, containing eight films by influential contemporary artists, are now available for viewing.
“Hacking the Engine”
“Hacking the Engine” investigates the intersection of video games and contemporary media art. The artists represented in this channel category: Federico Solmi, Robbie Cornelissen and Taras Hrabowsky, have identified the video game engine as a unique asset for 21st century artists. The work they have created draws from and subverts video game programs; they have adopted a formerly commercial tool and are wielding it expertly as artists.
“Mind Your Language”
The films in this Impakt Channel category deal with language, communication, meaning and understanding. Containing a diverse group of films by artists Jack Feldstein, Doug Fishbone, Adam Leech, Tony Cokes and George Barber, “Mind Your Language” spans the concept of communication (or lack thereof) from voice recognition software all the way to scriptwriting.
