Next to architectural work, the architect Theo Deutinger also produces so-called 'snapshots of globalization'. These are information visualizations and maps representing the world (and its globalization) at a particular moment. Impakt Online invited Deutinger to produce a work for the Web that deals with the theme time.

The "World At Work" project is a multi-layered visualization depicting and exploring worldwide working patterns of the world population. Deutinger has presented this issue in the form of a worldclock. The central elements of this clock are Earth's orbit in our solar system and Earth's rotation around its own axis. After all, our day/night rhythm is based on this natural course of the planet.

The clock shows the times on which different parts of the world population are working, sleeping or enjoying leisure time. By taking the working day from nine to five as the point of departure, the clock is provided with a critical dimension when it comes to the division of labor. As a result, the clock reveals the unbalanced division of labor between the various time zones on our planet.

Deutinger's world clock shows the activity of the world population at specific moments of the day and creates a direct connection between the origins of time - the solar system - and the most advanced means of calculating time: the computer.
