Impakt
Online would like to offer a series of links to projects that are
considered to be a substantial addition to the Dissidents &
Restrictions theme. All of the projects listed below contribute to the
ongoing discourse concerning the value of privacy, censorship on the
Internet and other issues addressed by our theme.
Psiphon
Psiphon enables people to make their computer act as a server, thus
giving people the opportunity to redirect data to people that don't
have unlimited access to websites, due to censorship.
Open-search.net
The open-search project proposes to build a distributed, peer-to-peer,
search-engine. By combining the already existing technologies of
peer-to-peer file storage, distributed crawling and peer-to-peer
searching, we hope to solve the problems inherent to a centralised
search-engine: manipulation, censorship and profiling.
Access Flickr!
This add-on for Mozilla's Firefox enables users to access Flickr's
photo-database in any part of the world, making sure censorship won't
get in the way.
Opennet Initiative
Internet censorship and surveillance are growing global phenomena.
ONI's mission is to identify and document Internet filtering and
surveillance, and to promote and inform wider public dialogue about
such practices.
Access Denied Map
Global Voices Advocacy seeks to build a global anti-censorship network
of bloggers and online activists throughout the developing world that
is dedicated to protecting freedom of expression and free access to
information online. The aim of this network is to raise the awareness
of online freedom of speech issues and to share tools and tactics with
activists and bloggers facing similar situations in different parts of
the globe.
Softhook
This artist states: Technology is not the neutral, rational instrument
that it is portrayed as; instead it appears to be a heady and unstable
mix of authoritarian control and anarchic mischief.
My approach is to slip into the gap between these two poles and use it
as my medium by combining the freedom offered by the art world with the
agency obtainable through design and technology.
State of Sabotage
SoS promotes justice, the universal protection and preservation of
human rights, as well as of individual rights. SoS promotes the
community of its citizens through culture, solidarity and unity. SoS
respects the rights, autonomy and self-determination of its citizens,
as well as the right of minorities to group autonomy. SoS promotes the
conservation, protection and creation of the freedom of art and culture.

Bureau d'etudes

influence our daily world, geo-political an economical factor for
instance.
Institute for Applied Autonomy
The Institute for Applied Autonomy (IAA) was founded in 1998 as a
technological research and development organization dedicated to the
cause of individual and collective self-determination. Our mission is
to study the forces and structures which affect self-determination and
to provide technologies which extend the autonomy of human activists.
