Impakt Highlights: YourSpace The Internet with its new generation of interactive platforms is vibrant with promise: communicating, exchanging and networking with applications that can be adjusted to the users wishes with increasing ease. This trend which fits the image of the individualization of society, at the same time nourishes the rise of specific subcultures. With Web 2.0, today's Internet that is, everybody can create their own space and personality, and build a personal network of like-minded people. But what exactly are the quality properties of these new structures and how do they relate to existing social contexts? Are YouTube and MySpace about social networking or are they merely platforms for vain self-exposure? Is a blog a public diary or a valuable contribution to the social debate? On the Internet trends and fashions spread in a viral way but who is in control? Individual users or record companies, fashion brands and other multi-national companies ? Does Web 2.0 contribute to a global mono-culture or is a paradise of pluriformity and individual expression ? YourSpace addresses all of these issues and also sheds a light on alternatives virtual realities and the changing notions of privacy, love and sexuality in the 21th century.
